Bellies and bambi
Let's talk about sport.
One of my rash, regrettable New Year's resolutions (aren't they all) was to run the Lausanne 20km in April. That's right: t-t-t-t-t-wenty k-k-k-k-k-ilometres. My reasoning was thus: I've done the 10km twice now (yes I am showing off) and it's good to aim high.
Things have got off to a good start. Early on Saturday mornings I go running in a lovely bit of forest just north of the city. Huge, cool pine trees, mossy banks, tiny, trickling streams, it is totally deserted apart from the occasional deer peeking out between the branches. And being Switzerland, it is replete with well-signposted, immaculately-maintained running track. Just an hour in this glorious wilderness cheers me up no end and I look forward to my date with Bambi all week.
There is one problem. One run a week of 7.5km (it takes me a laughable 51 minutes) will not make me fit enough for the twenty. Not to mention the toneless tummy that wobbles and bounces and frankly ruins my aerodynamics. Time to crank up the training.
My other New Year's Resolution was to get rid of the Easyjet orange template. One out of three...

20 km should be fine if you've done a 10 km twice already. You'll know by now that the first 500 m are always the hardest, whatever the distance, so you can definitely do it - you just run a little slower, that's all.
Or else you simply peg out, somewhere just after half way.
See - I told you it was easy.
I know about that ex-pat thing a bit, having lived in Bern(e) for five years some time ago. I escaped just 2 weeks before receiving my permanent residence - which was a shame, although arguably the compulsory lobotomy might well have put me off ...
In fact, I had a great time, and I miss those summer days floating down the Aare. Not to mention the ski-ing, and the opportunity to murder another language on a professionally daily rather than just a recreationally annual basis.
Interesting to see you mention concerns about Lyme's Disease. Justified enough - that caught me out after a tick bite during field work on a hillside near to Yverdon - not far from you. Fortunately treated, and no lasting effects. (Honest).
Anyway, please give my best regards to the Dents du Midi. Allez la belle Suisse !
Like the green-it makes me feel all eco with out having to actually do anything!
Hope you are all well- it's nice to catch up on your news! Sorry I've not been in touch much of late. No excuse except there will be a new little Mrs or Mr B arriving in approx 12 weeks!
Love Mrs B (Ros- it's a long time since happy days at Eswyn Beach !)
Congratulations, Mrs B!! Very exciting news. Lovely to hear from you, I intend to stalk you in the UK sometime soon x
Aer Lingus green - I love it.
